As the sun shines brighter, the days grow longer and our nights keep getting warmer and warmer, the city springs alive with its favorite summer pastime: outdoor movie screenings. Nothing is more LA than sitting out under our hot desert stars, picnicking on some yummy nosh over a chilled glass of your favorite sumthin sumthin with your nearest and dearest and reveling in our hometown’s crowning glory: FILM. From the Westside to the Eastside, LA has exploded with summer movie screenings recently, guaranteeing that there’s a little something for everyone on any given weekend. But with so many places to choose from now, it’s hard to keep track of what’s happening when and where. So as our little summer gift to you, may we present…your Los Angeles Outdoor Movie Guide 2016. Bookmark this page to come back to throughout the summer. We’ll keep updating it as more screenings are announced. For your convenience, we’ve noted our fave screenings of interest in bold and have left off any films that are already sold out. Keep in mind that tickets do sell out quickly though, so it’s best to start your summer film schedule planning NOW. Eat | See | Hear brings a festival vibe to your movie-going experience including a live band, food trucks and film screening…PLUS you can bring your (well-behaved) dog! Screenings are every Saturday night from May-September across 5 different LA locations. 5:30pm doors, 7pm live music, 8:30pm movie. This super popular and very intimate screening series takes place in deck chairs atop The Montalban Theater in Hollywood. Each screening includes organic food provided by Farmers Belly, cocktails, a concession stand and a killer city view. Because of the small rooftop space, many shows are already sold out. The original summer outdoor movie fest, Cinespia at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery is Classic LA. Picnic out on the lawn amongst the final resting places of some of Hollywood’s greatest. HOT TIP: Do your group a favor and have a friend bike inside to skip the line and set up your picnic spot, as these screenings draw a big crowd and fill up fast. This is the super sneaky way to bypass the long wait and just cruise right on in. May screenings: 6:45pm doors, 8pm movie. June screenings: 7:15pm doors, 9pm movie. The Silver Lake Picture Show is held at tiny Sunset Triangle Plaza in Silver Lake from 7pm-11pm every other Thursday through September. The best part? It’s also totally FREE!
